How do I cut an MP3 on my iPhone?

MP3 Cutter: Audio Editor cuts an MP3 on iPhone with no computer. Open the file, drag two handles to the start and end of the part you want, preview it, then export that section as MP3, M4A, WAV or M4R. The original file stays untouched.

How it works

  1. Open the audio

Import from Files, your Music Library or Voice Memos, or hand it a video and it lifts the audio track out first. Formats include mp3, m4a, wav, aac, aiff, caf and flac. The waveform draws once it loads.

  2. Drag the two handles

Move the start handle and the end handle to the section you want to keep. Tap play and it plays only what is between them, so you can nudge each edge until it lands cleanly.

  3. Shape it, if it needs it

Optional and skippable. Fade softens an abrupt start or end, normalize lifts a quiet recording to a full level, and gain, speed and reverse are there if the clip needs them. Preview reflects all of it.

  4. Export, then finish outside the app if it is a ringtone

Choose MP3, M4A, WAV or M4R, name it, and the share sheet opens. Sending or saving to Files ends here. A ringtone does not: iOS itself sets that, from the share sheet on iOS 26 or through GarageBand before it.

Common questions

How do I turn a cut clip into an iPhone ringtone?

No app on iPhone can set your ringtone for you. What MP3 Cutter does is write the M4R file iOS wants, at 30 seconds or shorter, and there is a one-tap Trim to 30s if your selection runs long. You finish the job yourself. On iOS 26 and later, tap Use as Ringtone on the share sheet, then pick it in Settings, Sounds and Haptics, Ringtone. Before iOS 26 that action does not exist: save the M4R to Files, open it in the free GarageBand app, hold the file, tap Share, then Ringtone.

Can I cut an MP3 without losing quality?

Trimming does not damage the audio, but re-encoding does. Exporting back to MP3 runs it through the encoder again at 192 kbps, a second lossy pass on a file that was already lossy. If that matters to you, export to WAV instead, which is uncompressed and identical to what was read off the source. M4A is AAC and is lossy in the same way MP3 is.

Can I trim a song from Apple Music?

Only if you own the file. A track downloaded through an Apple Music subscription is wrapped in FairPlay protection, and iOS does not let any third-party app read the audio inside it, so it will not open here or anywhere else. A song you bought from iTunes, ripped yourself, or have sitting in Files as an mp3 imports normally from the Music Library picker.

Is MP3 Cutter free?

Importing a file, trimming it, applying fade, gain, speed, reverse or normalize, and listening to the result cost nothing. Saving the finished file out is the paid part, sold as either a one-time unlock or a weekly subscription. The app itself is free to download from the App Store.
